About Us
Introduction
Welcome to our website. We are a group of masters students, academics and experienced professionals working towards a sustainable future. To do this we have developed a way of working together to produce reports, papers and background information that we hope will inform, support and inspire other New Zealanders. What follows below is a brief introduction. If you would like to meet the team, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Purpose of this Website
The aim of this website is to provide relevant and timely information. Although the site does contain a knowledge base that can be searched, the key purpose is to be relevant and timely to users, rather than providing a comprehensive and complete knowledge base. This site had been in development since January 2004 and went live in September 2004. It is currently undergoing further development.
Vision
Sustainable Future aims to be an independent think tank and provider of relevant, accurate, comprehensive information accessible for all New Zealanders. This will be supported by the provision of quality sustainable products and services.

Research Reports and our External Review Policy
We endeavour to provide well referenced and transparent reports in order that the reader (who may not necessarily agree with our conclusions), can understand how our recommendations have been reached. To ensure our reports are of top quality, we frequently ask external parties to review our work to ensure it is complete and accurate. Please see our current policy - External Review Policy
Seven Reasons why Sustainable Development Information is Important
- If we want to brand countries like New Zealand in the global market, we need to report our performance and prove that those claims are credible.
- If we want long term economic performance, we need to effectively manage our resource base, in particular our people and our environment.
- If we want to protect future generations, we need to know what we are protecting, for whom and why.
- If we want to make long term decisions, we need to know what we are trading off, for what, for whom and why.
- If we want to manage risk, we need to know what risks we are taking, for whom and why.
- If we want an effective market, we must promote and applaud innovative approaches and mechanisms that attempt to meet the information needs of consumers, employees, investors, service providers, communities and/or regulators.
- If we want consensus, we need information to be relevant, complete, cost-effective and able to be independently verifiable.
What we are doing to reduce our Office Carbon Footprint
We are constantly attempting to reduce the impact of our operation on the planet. Check out our Office Footprint to see how we're progressing.
Funding
The think-tank is funded by a registered charitable trust, known as the New Zealand Sustainable Future Foundation Trust and sales of Sustainable Future products and services, advertising revenue and donations. Many individuals also provide their time and resources in order to provide relevant and meaningful information for the general public.
